2025 event helps school students, alumni break into careers
A year after a successful inaugural event, the UC Irvine School of Social Ecology returns with the 2025 Field Study Career Summit on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Irvine Barclay Theatre.
The free, daylong summit, which is focused on developing social ecology students and alumni to help in their professional career trajectories, includes headshots, networking opportunities, and advice on how to craft a cover letter, resume and LinkedIn profile. Free food and refreshments will be served.
“To help our Anteaters have an advantage in the job market, we are once again presenting the Field Study Career Summit,” says School of Social Ecology Dean Jon B. Gould. “With studies showing two-thirds of college graduates struggle to begin their careers after school, this summit will help current social ecology students and young alumni prepare to embark on their career path.”
The school’s three academic departments are represented through individual career panels filled with industry professionals. Urban Planning & Public Policy panel goes off in the morning, Criminology, Law & Society occupies the mid-morning, and Psychology takes the afternoon.
The final two hours of the summit are devoted to a Career and Internship Festival, where attendees can connect and chat with dozens of professionals across Social-Ecology-related fields.
The idea for a Career Summit was born two summers ago from initiatives aimed to address the need for additional professional skills training for social ecology undergraduates, especially those who are first-generation college attendees and may not have had similar opportunities before. Some funding for the events has come from generous donors to the School of Social Ecology, including during the annual campuswide Giving Day.
